Overview
EDUBENCH has been picked up as title of the Magazine from a number of options. This is specifically done to set up a benchmark in the field of education, which until recently not available. Hence, ‘EDU’ is derived from the word education and the ‘BENCH’ as we usually describe it as a piece of furniture on which a person or many persons may sit together.

However, ‘BENCH’ has many connotations.Very often we see benches are simply named for the places they are made for. For instance, in the legal departments such as in the courtrooms where a judge or a group of judges sit to deliver justice is called ‘bench’.Or in the country’s two Parliament Houses and in the State Assembly buildings the seats used by members are also known as benches. The seats of ruling members are referred to as ‘Treasury Benches’ while seats reserved for opposition are called as Opposition Benches.

In schools or colleges benches are places where the students sit in their respective classrooms for the noble purpose of learning. Then what is EDUBENCH? Simply speaking, EDUBENCH is meant to stand as an open forum or platform of teachers for their professional development to advance and improve the craft of teaching. To empower, update and share the ideas and practical actions to impact learning in the classroom and beyond.

EDUBENCH shall focus on school education. It shall cover issues and topic of interest to any school teacher. We are here to support teachers and teaching and to help promote innovations in education. After independence Indian education system has grown phenomenally. But we are facing big challenges like ‘access to education’; particularly the education for economically constraints, women and minorities is concerned.

This section of the society lagged behind by all indicators as education is getting costlier day by day, thus becoming unaffordable. The other big challenge is quality of education. Majority of our graduates are ending up as unemployable lot.

In India there are over a million schools that offer education to varying number of students that come from different social background and with limited resources. The ethnic diversity of our country is an asset as well as challenge where more than 300 languages are spoken. India needs more and better teachers as our population growth rate is estimated at 1.5 percent. Hence there is a tremendous pressure on education.

EDUBENCH shall try to play a vital role as a bridge between stakeholders in general and teaching fraternity in particular. We are looking forward to help them in every aspect of education imparted to our children. We are requesting the teachers to actively participate with the Magazine and extend a helping hand as writers and marketers by encouraging the advertisers in the field of education, particularly the government departments. This is because we want to bridge communication gap by implementing the government policies as regards education.

Let’s hope that EDUBENCH very soon shall become a voice of education and give out some of the best articles aimed at updating the teachers’ knowledge on modern techniques evolving in the education sector.
